Concourse Underground is proud to present OX BLOOD, built on one of the greatest underdog platforms of the 90s, this Toyota Altezza captures the current moment in tuner culture where creative design meets reliable daily driver.

The Altezza is a well-loved if somewhat less well-known vehicle that came to be just at the tail end of the 1990s. Designed by the team behind the AE86 and the sensational 4th generation Supra, the Altezza was meant to reach the enthusiasts who cared less about prestige or outright speed, and instead wanted a balanced and approachable package they could use every day.

Many elements of this car would make their way into future Toyota projects, notably, the aluminum pedal design, which appears as recently as the late BRZ/FRS/GT86/GR86 family. Not just pedals, but the ethos of building lightweight, high revving, front engine, rear wheel drive machines would remain a hallmark of Toyota into the current era.

Stateside, this car is more recognizable with a Lexus badge, under the IS300 moniker. However, key differences in the platforms makes the Altezza thoroughly a different animal. While the 2JZ powered IS300 was noted for its refinement and low-end torque, the IS300 of the States sacrificed edge to be worthy of the Lexus badge. Not so for the Toyota-badged Altezza. With manual equipped models (like this one) sporting a specific version of the Yamaha co-designed 3S-GE engine that features oversized titanium valves, the so called "BEAMS" engine, with dual VVT-i has a factory rev limit of 7800 RPM, devloping most of it's 207 naturally aspirated horsepower at the top end of that rev range.

This particular Altezza brings not only the spirit of Toyota in the 90s, but also the tuner culture of Japan of the early 2000s. Tastefully modified with iconic brands of the tuning magazine era, this car unites past and present in a wholly unique way. D-Speed and Wald ground effects are combined to create a completely unique silhouette, the D-Speed bumpers modified to suit the Wald over fenders. Period correct Apexi suspension sets the stance, while Advan AVS Model 5 wheels, newly powdercoated, bring together the look into something you'd see on the cover of HyperRev. Sneaking in the back with a surprisingly of-era look is the entirely modern Big Country Labs wing, sporting a not so subtle gurney flap and titanium hardware to match the Kakimoto racing titanium exhaust.

Not to be ignored, of course, is the one-off Concourse Underground livery design, looking to balance the newest trends in Tampa tuner culture, with a classic look that throws back to the Need for Speed era of car video games. Laid in a colorshift KPMF vinyl, the entire car has been ceramic coated to ensure longevity and shine is easily preserved. Improvements to the car mechanically include a set of black powdercoated 4 piston big brakes in front, 2 piston rear, with slotted rotors and upgraded pads, a brand new power steering pump, fresh timing belt service, and all new fluids. Headlights have been upgraded to US spec IS300 HID units. All external hardware, including wheel lugs and widebody fittings are true titanium, for both weight savings and a bit of extra modern flare. The of-era Alpine audio system has been modified to include an AUX cable, allowing a Bluetooth adapter to be installed, or for you to plug in your audio device of choice directly. Ice cold AC is last on the list, but in Florida, all too important. Nothing blows colder than 90s JDM, and this Altezza is no exception, AC does in fact blow cold.
