This could be the last car you ever buy, it's that good.
This KZJ90 Toyota is everything you could want it to be and more. Insane durability coupled to one of the most usable platforms of all time, this Prado blurs the edges of any traditional vehicle label with it's perfect balance of power, utility, fun, and hardcore off-road ability.
I speak from experience, I've driven this car up and down the east coast of the US 4 times, once while fully loaded, roof rack stacked, and towing an 80s Corolla. It did 1500 miles with 4000 lbs of cargo, and did it without even a hiccup. The car itself weighs less than that. Seriously, this thing has blown me away.
But, as all things come to an end, it's time to pass this down to the next owner. I do so with certainty that I will regret it. Every time you turn the key, the peppy turbodiesel starts immediately and greets you with a sunny disposition, happily ticking and rumbling in that charming diesel way. Nicknamed "Hokkaido", after the northern region of Japan, this car has seen the depths of winter, climbed numerous mountain trails, and come down every time ready to hop on the highway and cruise at 75 miles an hour. Factory undercoated, this car shown not a single spot of rust, and is in exceptional condition. With only 140,000 miles, this car is just at the beginning of it's journey, with many 1KZ-TE powered vehicles lasting well into the 500k mile range.
Abandoning the live front axle of the 70 series, the 90 series sports a uniquely designed double wishbone front suspension that brings road manners to this series of Land Cruisers. The double wishbone set up eliminates the "death-wobble" that many front-live axle cars suffer from at highway speeds, and Toyota designed this to have even greater articulation than the outgoing live axle. Due to the short wheelbase, this vehicle rock crawls like a mountain goat, easily clearing obstacles that would hinder lesser vehicles.
An overbuilt full-time 4wd system is mated through to the turbo diesel motor by a snappy 5-speed (yes, snappy, in an SUV) manual transmission with locking transfer case featuring high and low gears. This is all mechanical, no electronics getting in the way here.
Inside you'll find seating for 5, with a folding rear bench (see photos) and a center lap belt. The interior is in excellent shape, the cloth seats are both cool looking with rad 90s graphics and extremely comfortable, showing very little wear.
To top it all off, the vehicle features a 2-in hitch receiver, a fully functional roof rack, and Toyota OEM bash bar and skid plate featuring Bosch rally fogs. Oh, and those wheels. Those are Work 3-piece wheels. Referred to as the "Modena Autostrada" and modeled after the wheels of the Ferrari F40, these Work wheels are period correct and an extremely popular choice from the era, and extremely rare in the Toyota 6 lug pattern.
